I am Ros’s Mouth Guard
I believe that life is too short to be serious all the time; humour is an essential element of good mental health. Fun and laughter are a great way of relaxing as well as being especially beneficial when teaching life skills.
Let me introduce myself – I am Ros’s mouth guard. Like so many other people she grinds her teeth at night which is cause for concern. Instead of spending umpteen hours trying to determine the cause of the grinding she asked her Endodontist for a solution. The result – I was constructed. I am unique as I was moulded specifically for Ros and have subsequently served her well for many years.
Sometimes it takes a while, and numerous tries, for Ros to place me in the correct position on her top teeth. At other times one ‘go’ is successful. Of course, there is the odd occasion when Ros is either sick or too tired to remember how important I am and she forgets about me. Thankfully this seldom happens.
I have enjoyed many excursions and am extremely well travelled both within Australia and Overseas. How many mouth guards have spent time in Sydney, Perth and Tasmania as well as holidaying in towns on the Great Ocean Road. I have also enjoyed adventures in New Zealand, South Africa and most recently Japan. I am sure I am in the minority!
I have my thinking cap on and am debating where I could hide tonight while Ros is asleep. I enjoy my adventures which have included concealing myself in her suitcase as well as frequently snuggling under her blanket or sheet. Oops, today I missed my usual destinations and have landed on the floor yet again!! I wonder how much time and energy Ros will expend to find me in the morning.
Ok, Ros has just woken and I can hear her astonishment that I have gone on yet another adventure while she slept. Instead of becoming anxious or irritable I hear her laughter as she ponders my whereabouts. She has always succeeded in finding me relatively quickly and easily!
Yes, I do need to be cleaned regularly! While I enjoy a relaxing immersion in cleaning fluid Ros sometimes becomes distracted and forgets about me, leaving me in the water forever…but that’s ok I will not rust, I will endure.
Apparently Ros is considering superseding me with a newer model!! Help, I am still enjoying my life. Hey Ros you still need me – your trusty companion. Yes, I am a bit older and discoloured but I am still good at my job and have executed my duty faithfully over many years.
I will understand if the shape of Ros’s mouth changes a little – but hopefully I will continue to prove my worth on a nightly basis….I would prefer not to b replaced unless it becomes essential.
I am looking forward to tonight – another adventure awaits.
Take care, stay safe, remember that smiling and laughter are good for all of us.
